Rajat Kumar, who gained national recognition in 2022 for rescuing Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant from a horrific car accident, has now made headlines for a tragic reason. The 25-year-old allegedly attempted suicide alongside his 21-year-old girlfriend, Manu Kashyap, by consuming poison in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on February 9 in Buchha Basti village.
The couple reportedly took this extreme step after their families strongly opposed their relationship. While Ms. Kashyap tragically passed away during treatment, Mr. Kumar remains in critical condition, receiving medical care.
Family Dispute Over Caste Differences
According to reports, both families had arranged their marriages elsewhere and refused to accept their relationship due to caste differences. This opposition allegedly led the couple to take the drastic step. However, following Ms. Kashyap’s death, her mother has accused Mr. Kumar of abducting her daughter and poisoning her. Authorities are now investigating the case.
The Heroic Rescue of Rishabh Pant
Rajat Kumar came into the limelight in December 2022 when he, along with fellow local resident Nishu Kumar, saved Rishabh Pant from a near-fatal accident. The cricketer was traveling from Delhi to Uttarakhand when his Mercedes crashed into a divider and caught fire near Roorkee.

The two young men, working at a nearby factory, rushed to the scene and managed to pull Pant out of the burning vehicle, ensuring he received immediate medical attention. Their bravery was widely appreciated, and as a token of gratitude, Rishabh Pant later gifted them scooters. The cricketer went on to make a remarkable recovery and returned to the sport the following year.
