Indian Railways Aims for a Greener Future
Meanwhile, Indian Railways is working towards an ambitious goal of becoming the world’s first 100% ‘green railway.’ Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced the plans to utilize solar energy by installing solar panels on unused railway land. This initiative aims to prevent land encroachment and supply the generated energy to the power grid.
The ministry has also committed Rs. 18,000 crore to solar power projects along railway tracks. Plans include complete electrification of tracks and the use of biodiesel, furthering their vision of sustainability. Minister Goyal shared that every train entering the national capital may soon operate on electric traction, marking significant progress towards this eco-friendly transformation.
Indian Railways’ green initiatives highlight its commitment to environmental sustainability, showcasing its evolution beyond transportation services.
