The sixteenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) kicked off on August 12 with an emotional speech from host Amitabh Bachchan. The show began with Bachchan expressing his deep gratitude for the audience’s love over the years. The first contestant of the season, Utkarsh Baxi from Bengaluru, an HR professional, played well but ultimately lost out on Rs 25 lakh after incorrectly answering a question based on the Mahabharat.
The pivotal question was:
“According to the Mahabharat, which god gifted a garland to Amba, saying whoever wears it will be the person to kill Bhishma?”
The options were Lord Shiva, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Vayu. Unsure of the answer, Utkarsh used the ‘Video Call a Friend’ lifeline, who suggested Lord Shiva. Still uncertain, Utkarsh opted for the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, which allows two attempts at answering but eliminates the option to quit the game. Unfortunately, he chose Lord Shiva first, and when that proved incorrect, he selected Lord Vayu, which was also wrong.
The correct answer was Lord Kartikeya.
As a result, Utkarsh lost the chance to win Rs 25 lakh, walking away with Rs 3.20 lakh instead. Had he quit the game, he could have taken home Rs 12.5 lakh.
In this episode, Amitabh Bachchan also introduced a new feature called ‘Super Sawal,’ where a contestant can choose to answer a question without the provided four options. If correct, the prize money is doubled, but this feature can only be used between the 6th and 10th questions.
