The horrific rape and murder of Dr. Moumita Debnath (31) at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 have ignited widespread outrage. Protests involving citizens, resident doctors, nurses, and other medical staff have erupted in response to this tragedy.
. Amid these protests, unidentified miscreants stormed the hospital, causing significant damage. Reports indicate that the emergency room and seminar hall, crucial areas for evidence collection, were ransacked. Visuals shared by news outlets and social media users reveal the extent of the destruction, with CCTV cameras appearing damaged. Videos circulating online show trucks carrying the vandals as they fled the scene, and other clips depict the assailants attempting to enter the ladies’ hostel on the hospital grounds.

The police reported that around 40 individuals, disguised as protestors, entered the premises, vandalizing property, attacking policemen, and destroying the police outpost at the site. These goons were armed with sticks, bricks, and rods.
Doctors who were protesting had to flee for their lives, along with the policemen who were supposed to protect them.
In an official statement, the resident doctors described the terrifying ordeal experienced by the doctors, patients, and their families at the hospital. Several medical professionals sustained severe injuries, and even patients were not spared in the attack.
The Indian Medical Association has condemned the attack in a formal statement.
However, the Kolkata Police, in a social media post, denied any tampering with the evidence. City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has accused the media of running a campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of the Kolkata Police.
