A passenger flying IndiGo from Chandigarh to Delhi recently encountered an issue at the check-in counter when two different scales displayed varying weights for the same piece of luggage. This inconsistency has sparked concerns regarding the accuracy of airport weighing machines.
The flyer initially grew suspicious when the weight displayed on the scale seemed higher than expected. Upon voicing his concerns, the IndiGo staff at the counter suggested he reweigh the bag on another scale. However, to his surprise, the second machine showed a different reading, further deepening his doubts.
Taking to social media, the passenger, Daksh Sethi, shared a video of the incident, which quickly went viral. “Chandigarh Airport. 30th Jan, ’25. Around 16:00 hrs @indigo.6e Counter. Same Bag. Two counters. Two different weights. 2.3 KGs difference,” he wrote on Instagram.
He further questioned the reliability of the machines, stating, “Can these weighing systems be manipulated? I hope this is just a rare technical glitch. My bag didn’t feel as heavy as the scale indicated, so I checked it on another belt as suggested by the staff. To my shock, it displayed a completely different weight! Such inconsistencies shake our trust in the system. I hope this issue is taken seriously.”

Social Media Reactions
The incident has fueled discussions among travelers, with many sharing similar experiences.
One user commented, “This has happened to me and my husband three times in the last five years.”
Another wrote, “Airports are clearly scamming us!”
A third traveler recounted, “I traveled through four airports on the same trip with the same luggage, but on my return, my total baggage weight had mysteriously increased by 12 kg. It made no sense! I had actually removed some items during my trip. I was traveling alone with a child, and this felt like sheer harassment.”
IndiGo’s Response
In response to the viral video, IndiGo issued a statement:
“Hi, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We’d like to inform you that the weighing machines are calibrated and certified by the airport operator at regular intervals. Be assured, we have shared your feedback with the relevant team. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon.”
The incident has reignited discussions about baggage weight discrepancies at airports, with many passengers now questioning whether such errors are rare glitches or a larger systemic issue.
