Taha Shah Badussha, now a national crush following his performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” recently opened up about the struggles he faced early in his career. Despite his current fame, his journey was not without its hardships.
In a recent interview with Social Kandura, Taha Shah Badussha shared his memories of the early years of his career, particularly when he finally got the chance to audition for a project with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. After months of effort, he was contacted by casting director Shanoo Sharma, who invited him to audition alongside a girl, with the possibility of meeting Karan Johar. Taha recounted:
“After five or six months of trying to get an audition in Mumbai, Shanoo Sharma called me. She said, ‘Karan Johar wants to test this girl, but you can come and test with her, and he might see you’. So, I’m like, ‘I’ll take that opportunity, why not?’”
Excited by this opportunity, Taha Shah completed all his prior commitments and headed to the audition.
However, just as he arrived at the building, he received a call from Shanoo Sharma with disappointing news. Karan Johar no longer wanted to see him. Taha described the moment:
“I finished a prior shoot commitment, and I was under their building, when I get a call from Shanoo. And she’s like, ‘I’m so sorry Taha, but Karan doesn’t want to see you.’ She asked me where I was, and I told her that I was far away and that’s fine. I went back in an auto, I was really heartbroken, because they said he didn’t want to see me at all.”
Pursuing Karan Johar’s Attention
Taha also shared an earlier incident during an interview with The Week, where he chased Karan Johar’s car to get his number. He narrated:
“I ran after Karan Johar sir’s car and I hit his car telling him that I just got a film. ‘I want to show it to you, please give me your number’. He was very kind to give me his number and asked me if I was okay. He offered me some water, and that’s how I met him for the first time. Later, I went to his office and got the audition for Gippi.”
Almost Cast in ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’
In another revelation, Taha mentioned during an interaction with Galatta India that he was initially selected for the role of ‘Avi’ in “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani,” a role eventually played by Aditya Roy Kapur. Though disappointed, Taha acknowledged that Aditya did justice to the character.
