In an interview with The Lallantop, Nana Patekar reminisced about working with the late Rishi Kapoor in the 1995 film Hum Dono, highlighting Kapoor’s belief in spontaneity.
Rishi Kapoor’s Spontaneity and Temper
Patekar recalled that Rishi Kapoor was a talented and legendary actor known for his seamless transition from a major star to a reliable character actor. Despite his talent, Kapoor had a short temper and would often use abusive language on set.
“He would get annoyed easily, insisting on doing only one take and dismissing others by saying,
‘We are extempore, not like you theatre guys, kya bakwaas baat karta hai, chal,”
Patekar shared.
On 12th Fail Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Patekar expressed his dislike for director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, revealing his struggle with controlling his anger
I don’t like 12th fail director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. I have no control over my anger. I am still the same. That aspect of my life hasn’t changed yet. Every scene has its setting, tune, and note, there is a way to talk. Now, I don’t know if you watched Parinda, I was in the character, so when the director says, ‘Lights, camera, clap’, if you aggressively say ‘action’, it starts to linger in your ears. It echoes and hurts your ears.”
he explained, referencing his experience on the set of Parinda.

Last year, Patekar mentioned that he couldn’t sit through a successful box office film, criticizing the current trend of producing only certain types of movies and forcing audiences to watch them. While he didn’t name specific films, many speculated he was referring to Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan or Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.
Born in 1951, Nana Patekar is known for his roles in films such as Salaam Bombay, Ankush, Tirangaa, Krantiveer, Khamoshi, Agni Sakshi, Parinda, Taxi No. 9211, Bluffmaster, Hattrick, Welcome, Raajneeti, Welcome Back, and more recently, The Vaccine War.
