Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal recently shared his experience while collecting a food order at Ambience Mall, Gurugram, where he was prevented from using the lift as it was “not meant for delivery agents.” Goyal, along with his wife Grecia Munoz, took on the role of a delivery partner to better understand the challenges they face. During the experience, Goyal was directed to use the stairs instead of the lift while collecting the order.
Following his post, the owner of Ambience Mall responded by taking immediate action. The mall has now established a dedicated food delivery pick-up point for delivery agents.
Deepinder Goyal thanked the mall’s owner, Arjun, for swiftly addressing the issue. He further emphasized that malls should be more considerate towards delivery partners.

In a recent update, Zomato CEO revealed that the mall management also agreed to deploy “walkers” inside the mall. These individuals will transport food from restaurants to designated pick-up points for delivery partners, ensuring a smoother process.
During my second order, I realised that we need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners.

The Ex-Shark urged other mall owners to implement similar solutions to support delivery partners, restaurants, aggregators, and customers alike. Reacting to his post, several users echoed the sentiment, noting that not only malls but many residential societies also restrict delivery agents from using lifts.
One user commented, “Every society, mall, and office should allow delivery partners to use regular lifts and entrances. There should be no divide.”
