As the world celebrated Father’s Day on June 16, 2024, Shikhar Dhawan shared a heartfelt message that highlighted his personal struggles. Despite his professional achievements, the 38-year-old cricketer faces significant challenges in his personal life, particularly the pain of not being in contact with his only son, Zoravar.
Shikhar Dhawan’s Emotional Note for His Son, Zoravar, on Father’s Day
Shikhar Dhawan took to Instagram to share a photo featuring himself, his father Mahendra Pal Dhawan, and his son Zoravar, all dressed in traditional attire. In his post, he expressed his emotions about Father’s Day, acknowledging his lack of contact with Zoravar. His note read:
“Wishing my dad a very Happy Father’s Day. Thank you for everything. Also, it’s an emotional Father’s Day for me without hearing from my son, as I have no contact with him. So, wishing Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers experiencing the same feeling. Sending love and positivity to them.”
Fans quickly responded to Shikhar’s post with messages of support. One user commented, “Divorces are easier, but being a parent with no contact with your child is too painful. Even the child suffers. Everything will get better; trust in God.” Another wrote, “The pain in writing this,” while a third added, “We are with you, sir.”
Shikhar Dhawan’s Previous Heartfelt Messages
In October 2023, Shikhar Dhawan was granted a divorce from his former wife, Aesha Mukerji, on grounds of ‘cruelty’ and ‘mental agony.’ The court ordered Aesha to bring their son to India for visitation, granting Shikhar the right to meet Zoravar in India and Australia. On Zoravar’s birthday in December 2023, Shikhar shared a heartfelt note about not seeing his son for over a year.
Earlier in 2024, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, Shikhar discussed his ‘detached’ relationship with his 10-year-old son. He shared that he writes messages to Zoravar every day, despite having no expectations of his son reading them. He said:
“Wherever he is, I hope he is happy. Hopefully, one day he will come and see me. I am in love with him, but at the same time, I am also detached. I don’t want to push him. I write messages to him every day. I don’t know whether he is receiving or reading them. I don’t have any expectations. I have accepted it. I am a father, and I am trying to do my duty. I miss him; I feel sad, but I have learned to live with it.”
