Earlier this year, Kusha Kapila appeared on Pretty Good Roast Show S1, where comedian Samay Raina made jokes about her divorce from Zorawar Ahluwalia. The roast drew backlash, with Kusha describing the comments as “dehumanising.” Recently, Samay disclosed that Kusha has blocked him on Instagram, indicating lingering tensions between the two.
Samay’s Instagram followers suggested Kusha as a panellist for his new show, India’s Got Latent. Samay responded humorously, noting he couldn’t tag her because she had blocked him but hoped they might collaborate in the future.
The post went viral on Reddit, where fans humorously discussed Samay’s remarks, with some blaming another comedian, Ashish, for allowing such provocative content in the show.
During the roast, Samay took digs at Kusha’s past marriage, her divorce, and even her pet dog, which she co-owns with Zorawar. He implied that the dog might be happier with Zorawar, causing outrage. Other comedians joined in, targeting Kusha’s recent weight loss.
“Kusha has a female dog, who is with Kusha half the time, and during the other half remains happy. Just give the dog to Zorawar. Let him have at least one b**ch in his life.”
In response, Kusha shared a cryptic message, calling the jokes “shockingly unkind” and advising others to “let it slide off.”
When someone’s trying to disempower you, it’s their garbage. It’s not yours to store. Let it slide off you.”
“I had no idea what was in store for me. Maybe I should have asked for a script and known better but since friends were involved I didn’t. Rookie mistake.”
She expressed regret about not reviewing the script in advance, expecting that the involvement of friends meant it would be in good taste.
“While I endured some of the really raspy jokes in front of a live audience and technicians, I absolutely was not okay for it to play for millions of people since some jokes straight up dehumanised me. It was shockingly unkind,” Kusha shared, adding, “Mine was the first episode to be shot (was shot in January) so everyone had fair bit of learnings post shoot which is why in other episodes, boundaries haven’t been crossed, especially with women.”
She noted that her episode, the first to be shot, served as a lesson, leading to stricter boundaries in subsequent episodes, especially for women.
