Property worth more than Rs.20,000 crores have been destroyed. The death toll has gone past 370 now and more than 7 Lakh people have been rescued. It will take quite good time for Kerala and its citizens to recover from this disaster.

Recently a controversy emerged out for the Indian government when the Indian government refused to accept the aid offered by UAE government of Rs.700 crores, as it is a policy of the country to depend on the internal sources during the times of natural calamities.

However, the UAE has refused that they made any such offer to the Indian government saying that they will like to offer aid as they have formed a committee for assessing the situation and the amount of aid will be dependent on the report of the committee.

Like many more things, this news also turned out to be fake. However, the big question is how this rumor of UAE providing Rs.700 crores aid got circulated on social media?

Well, the news came directly from the CM of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan, who took to his twitter on Aug 21st and made a tweet in this regard. However, in a series of tweets, he also informed that the news came to him from many indirect sources and not officially from the UAE government. In his series of tweet, he also mentioned that PM Modi also has the knowledge of this information about UAE’s aid.

Here, have a look at the tweet he made, which got this rumor circulated on social media :

The tweet read:
CM Pinarayi Vijayan informed that the United Arab Emirates will provide Kerala an assistance of ₹700 Crore. Kerala has a special relationship with UAE, which is a home away from home for Malayalees. We express our gratitude to UAE for their support.

Once this tweet caught eyes, Indian government was brutally slammed on social media for not providing much help to the flood stricken state. Even the finance minister of Kerala Thomas Isaac also took to Twitter to slam the Modi government.

Here, have a look at the tweet :

The tweet read:
We asked Union Gov for financial support of ₹2200 Cr ; they grant us a precious ₹600 Cr . We make no request to any foreign gov but UAE gov voluntarily offer ₹700cr. No, says Union gov , it is below our dignity to accept foreign aid. This is a dog in the manger policy.”

However, now UAE has opened up about this issue and has made it cleared that they never offered the amount of aid.
