Apple, one of the world’s largest tech giants, may soon face hefty payouts as several lawsuits loom over the company. While Apple rakes in billions annually from its iPhones and other gadgets, legal troubles could take a financial toll.
Recently, Apple was hit with a $1.85 billion lawsuit in the UK over allegations of overcharging App Store users. Adding to its woes, Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement in the United States due to privacy concerns involving Siri allegedly eavesdropping on users.
$100 Payout for Eligible Customers
Former Apple employee Tyler Morgan took to TikTok to inform users that they may be entitled to $100 as part of the settlement. According to Morgan, Apple will compensate $20 per device suspected of unauthorized listening, with claims allowed for up to five devices per person. This means eligible customers could receive $100.
The allegations date back to 2014, so if you’ve owned an Apple device since then and noticed unusual Siri behavior, you might qualify for compensation. Morgan explains that claimants must swear under oath and register on a specific website, which he plans to share in his TikTok bio once it goes live.
Unfortunately, this settlement is limited to U.S. residents, unlike the App Store lawsuit, which benefits UK consumers.
Why Apple Faces Legal Action
The lawsuit stems from a 2019 revelation that Apple contractors were allegedly listening to Siri recordings of private conversations without users’ knowledge. A report by The Guardian claimed recordings included sensitive information such as medical discussions, drug prescriptions, and even intimate moments.
Apple admitted Siri recordings might be analyzed but failed to disclose human involvement. Some plaintiffs claim unusual ad targeting after conversations, such as seeing Air Jordan ads after mentioning the brand or medical ads following discussions with doctors.
How to Claim Your Share
Morgan urges U.S. customers to “get your family together, agree you heard something strange, and claim your $100.” Apple has proposed a settlement decision by February 14, with a dedicated website expected within 45 days. Claims must be filed by May 15, leaving a short window for users to act.
If eligible, $100 could soon be yours—stay tuned for updates on how to claim your share.
