The Hindi television industry is a small world of emotions, comedy and unlimited entertainment. For generations, it has been entertaining millions of people and giving them a much needed break from their daily humdrum’s.

There are so many iconic characters that television industry has given us. We might forget the show with time but not the character.  Here are 8 characters who left a mark and will always remain in a small corner at the back of our minds.

1- Jethalal Gada


Dilip Joshi aka Jethalal Gada is the reason why people are still mad for ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma.’ His dialogues, love for Babita ji and Gujarati Dimaag, makes him one of the funniest characters on Indian soap operas.

2- Angoori Bhabhi

With her catchphrase ‘Sahi pakde hain’, Angoori Bhabhi captured the essence of Indian middle class. Her funny English dialect coupled with her funny pronunciations of English words like, aap safely lijiye na( aap selfie lijiye na), made everyone burst into laughter.

3- Praful Parekh

Who can forget Praful’s sarcastic long laughter and his love for Hansa? His imperfect English speaking skills added to his humor and made him one of the best characters ever. And who can forget, “ Hansa, main hoon na! 

4- Dr Mashoor Gulati

The “mashoorness” of India’s finest doctor made everyone sick with his extra dose of laughter. His comical acts on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ made even the sternest of people burst into laughter. Unfortunately he is no longer a part of the show, but the character will never fade into oblivion.

5- Jassi ( Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin)

Mona Singh aka Jassi was a revelation among small screen audience. Her character received wide spread love and she didn’t disappoint them. Her teeth braces, her quirky smile, her funny clothing style, she set the TV world on fire.

6- Hansa Parekh

Where there is Praful, there is hansa. The amalgamation of her Gujarati and English dialect gave us words like ‘Hinglish’ and ‘Prafull’. She is one of the most iconic fictional characters to ever grace the Indian cinema.

7- Daya Jethalal Gada

Hey Maataaji! A typical housewife in the show, her punches and sense of humor is not just slow but extremely slow. But this is the reason why Daya is an exceptional character.

8- Monisha Sarabhai

Monisha’s bargaining power and her nok-jhok with her mother-in-law, gave everybody laughter prangs.
