Bollywood actress and BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, has once again sparked controversy, this time on Gandhi Jayanti. Known for her outspoken remarks, Ranaut has previously made bold statements, such as claiming that India gained independence only in 2014 with the rise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kangana Ranaut latest comment came via an Instagram story, where she shared a BJP post on Shastri Jayanti, which coincides with Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
While India celebrated the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, often referred to as the “Father of the Nation,” and the 120th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Ranaut stirred debate by challenging Gandhi’s title. Quoting her post, she stated, “Desh ke pita nahi, desh ke toh laal hote hain,” translating to “The country doesn’t have a father, it has sons.” She added, “Blessed are the sons of Mother India.”

This remark divided social media users, with some agreeing and others strongly criticizing her views. While Gandhi’s “Father of the Nation” title isn’t official, it is widely accepted, and prominent figures like Subhash Chandra Bose also referred to him as “Bapu.” In response, one user sarcastically commented, “Every child tends to undermine their father’s struggle,” while another pointed out how Ranaut often sparks controversy with her statements.
