Parking fees are generally small, but receiving a bill of Rs 5,700 can be quite shocking, as experienced by Delhi resident Deepak Gosain. He voiced his frustration online after being charged Rs 5,770 for parking at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. His post quickly gained attention, sparking discussions about the high parking fees at the airport.
A Rs 5,770 Parking Bill Shocks Delhi Man at IGI Airport
On August 17, Deepak parked his car in the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport. When he returned on August 26, he was presented with a staggering bill. The parking fee totaled Rs 4,889.83, with an additional Rs 880.17 in GST. In disbelief, Deepak shared his experience on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing his shock at the exorbitant charge.
Damage to Car Adds to Deepak’s Frustration
To make matters worse, Deepak discovered that his car had been significantly damaged while parked. The gate lock was broken, and the car had multiple scratches, indicating it hadn’t been properly protected. Despite paying the high parking fee, the safety of his vehicle was compromised. His attempts to report the damage were met with indifference from the parking staff, who showed no interest in addressing his concerns, further adding to his frustration.
Dear Deepak,
We regret the inconvenience caused to you. We request you to share your contact number and vehicle number via DM (Direct Message) for us to look into it. https://t.co/3OUc8zt3ZV— Delhi Airport (@DelhiAirport) August 26, 2024
At IGI Airport’s Terminal 3, parking charges increase quickly over time. The first 30 minutes cost Rs 120, followed by Rs 170 for the next 30 minutes, and Rs 100 per hour for the following five hours. After five hours, the rate escalates to Rs 600 for each 24-hour period. This tiered pricing structure can lead to hefty bills, especially for those who park for extended periods, as was the case with Deepak’s Rs 5,770 charge.
