The taste of Bollywood audience has changed drastically over the last few years in India. Low budgets films are doing great business in the box office if the content is superb.

These movies sometimes abandon the traditional formula of item songs and dance number to focus on a great script that tells a heart touching story. We have compiled a list of such great small budgets films that did great in Bollywood.

1.Paan Singh Tomar: Made with a budget of 4.5 crore, this film grossed 38 crores at the box office thanks to superb acting of irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It is based on the original story of an Indian athlete who becomes a rebel to fight for his rights.

2.Kahaani: Vidya Balan carried this film alone and it went on to earn 78 crores despite the small making charge of 8 crores. The script ensured that this crime drama won hearts.

3.Vicky Donor: First time in Indian cinema a movie was made on sperm donation. Superb acting of Ayushman Khurana and Yami Guatam ensured this film made of 5 crores grossed 65 crores at the box office.

4.Tanu Weds Manu: This family entertainer gave us the memorable character of Tanu. It was made of 17 crores but became a super hit and went on to make 50 crores.

5.Peepli Live: This film made headlines thanks to its realistic portrayal of farmer suicides in Indian villages and media. The film made profit of 30 crores.

6.No One Killed Jessica: Made on the true story of the murder of Jessica Lal, this Rani Mukherjee starrer went on to make 58 crores at the box office. Jessica unfortunately was killed by brat Manu Sharma in a bar. The film got critical recognition for the brilliant story telling.

7.Toilet Ek Prem Katha: This subtle love story woven around the topic of rural hygiene went on to make 212 crores despite its small budget of just 18 crores. Akhsay Kumar’s acting was appreciated but the story of the film touched hearts.

8.Taare Zameen Par: Amir Khan’s directorial venture was highly appreciated for the heart touching story of a dyslexic child who gets the love and care from his teacher. Made of a small budget of 2.2 crore this film went on to make 88 crores.

9.English Vinglish: The story of this film revolves around Sridevi who is a middle class home maker who goes abroad and gets recognition for her cooking abilities despite not knowing English. This film was made from a budget of 11 crores and went on to make 78 crores.

10.Aashiqui 2: This lovestory starring newcomers Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor made unbelievable business. It earned 109 crores at the box office. The music and the script were its highlight.
