While most Bollywood superstars are known for their luxurious lifestyle, Nana Patekar is an exception to that trend. The highly acclaimed actor has won two National Film Awards for his roles in ‘Krantiveer’ and ‘Parinda’ and worked in movies like ‘Ankush’, ‘Mohre’, ‘Trishagni’, ‘Agni Sakhsi’ and ‘Angaar’.However, the famous actor is now known for his philanthropic activities.
The actor has donated most of his earnings for endangered farmers. He urged Bollywood to be more sympathetic towards the poor of the society and do more.
Through the charitable organization Anubhuthi, he donated parts of his income for rebuilding villages in Bihar which were devastated by flood. He was the first superstar to come in the rescue of desperate farmers in Maharashtra who were affected by draught.
He donated 10,00,000 rupees which he got as cash prize from Raj Kapoor award. The actor then went on to provide financial support for farmer families who lost family members due to suicide following the draught. In August 2015, the kindhearted actor donated 15000 rupees to 62 families of farmers from Vidarbha region.
Later in the month of September of the same year he offered financial help to 113 families Latur and Osmanabad districts of Marathwada who were also affected by the natural calamity.
He then went on to found ‘Naam’ foundation along with actor Makarand Anaspure which is a non- governmental nonprofit organization that works to provide help to farmers of Maharashtra who have been affected by draught. They have been particularly active in drought-prone areas of Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Nana is the only actor in Bollywood who has donated ninety percent of his earnings to the poor. He leads a very simple middleclass life and works for the betterment of the poor of his state.
He is an inspiration for everyone in the society. He has shown that even a superstar can give up his privileges and work for people who need our help.
