While making a film filmmakers make sure that they show that right locations on the big screen to mesmerize the audience without spending too much.

Shooting in prime locations is not cheap and requires lot of permissions from authorities. Hence they shoot in alternate locations but give us the illusion that they shot in the place which we all love.

In this article we have come up with such examples where Bollywood fooled us with shooting locations.

Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani:

The Ranvir starrer showed the audience that the characters of the films were trekking in Manali but in reality the shooting took place in Gulmarg, Kashmir. The Chief Minister of Kashmir Omar Abdullah was annoyed that despite filming in Kashmir the makers are claiming that it is Manali.

Fanaa:

The makers of the film fanaa decided to film in Tatra Mountains in southern Poland instead of Kashmir for those mountain scenes. The film starred Amir Khan and Kajol.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam:

This romantic film is a landmark in Bollywood. However, the scenes where Ajay and Aishwariya came to Italy to find Salman were shot in Budapest.

Dabangg:

The film which was set in Bihar was actually shot in Maharashtra. They redecorated tiny town of Wai in Maharashtra as Laalgunj.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan:

Despite the setting of movie being Pakistan, in reality the makers shot the entire film in Kashmir. Sonmarg, Zoji La and Thajiwas glacier were the chosen location.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum:

Chandni Chowk shown in the film was recreated in a studio at Film City of Mumbai.

Chennai Express:

Major filming of this movie took place in Goa and in Maharashtra. Kalyan Junction railway station was recreated in Vasco Da Gama Railway Station.

Mary Kom:

The biopic on the boxer of the same name portrayed parts of Manali and Himachal Pradesh as Manipur.

Sarbjit:

The makers of the film recreated Pakistani jail in Mumbai as the film was based on Sarabjit Singh who was kept in Pakistani jail as a suspected spy.

Student Of The Year:

The famous school of the film was located in India. The makers took external shots of Kasiga School, Dehradun and used it in the film. It was also shot in Kashmir and Thailand.

Bombay Velvet:

For this film, the old Mumbai was recreated in sets located in Sri Lanka.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:

The film is another Bollywood classic. However Wenlock Downs in Ooty was used as the summer camp that Anjali goes to in Shimla.

Phantom:

The makers of the film filmed in Lebanon, Beirut and Kfardebian to portray Syria.
