IndiGo’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, marked his two-year milestone as the head of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, taking to LinkedIn to share his reflections. Beginning his post with “Picture abhi baaki hai” (the story isn’t over yet), Elbers expressed how India now feels like home after spending two years in the country, saying, “Bharat ab ghar jaisa lagta hai.”
Elbers, who started his career at KLM airlines in the Netherlands in 1992, worked his way up to become the President and CEO of KLM by 2014. In September 2022, he succeeded Ronojoy Dutta as CEO of IndiGo, a low-cost airline founded by Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal in 2006. IndiGo has grown to become one of India’s most preferred airlines.
In his LinkedIn post, Elbers shared that out of the 88 domestic cities where IndiGo operates, he and his team visited 30, from Thiruvananthapuram in the south to Leh in the north.
Elbers also posted pictures from six of his travels across India, challenging his followers to guess the locations, which included well-known monuments, places of worship, ghats, and mountains.
In response to Elbers’ post, Shark Tank India investor Anupam Mittal commented,
“Aap bhi ab ghar wale jaise lagte ho!” (You too now feel like family!). Mittal, the founder of People Group and Shaadi.com, praised Elbers for embracing India during his time as IndiGo’s CEO.
