A recent post by social media user Saurabh Sharma has stirred up online discussions about pricing fairness on e-commerce platforms, specifically Flipkart. Sharma shared screenshots on X (formerly Twitter) showing that a Mokobara cabin suitcase was priced differently based on the user’s device. Android users saw a price of ₹4,119 with a 65% discount, while iPhone users saw the same item at ₹4,799 with a 60% discount. Additionally, the no-cost EMI options also varied, with Android users offered a starting rate of ₹1,373 per month, while iOS users had a rate of ₹1,600.
Sharma questioned this discrepancy, suggesting, “Apple charges a 30% commission on subscriptions, so different pricing for iOS makes sense there. But for e-commerce? Very shady and unfair.” Flipkart’s customer support responded, explaining that prices are set by sellers based on various factors and encouraged users to enjoy the deals provided.
The post quickly went viral, amassing over 127,000 views. Many users joined the conversation, with some sharing similar experiences across different apps and platforms.
“This is common across multiple apps,” one person noted, while others pointed out differences in cab fare pricing between Android and iOS. Some voiced concerns about Flipkart’s practices, calling the platform “risky” and questioning its accountability, while a few speculated that the discrepancy could result from varying commission rates or seller error.
