Anant Ambani has made a significant contribution to Mumbai’s famous Lalbaugcha Raja by donating a 20-kg gold crown worth Rs 15 crore, ahead of the much-anticipated Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
This donation was made in collaboration with the Reliance Foundation, which has been involved in several philanthropic initiatives related to the Lalbaugcha Raja for over 15 years.
The unveiling of the idol took place earlier in the evening, and the sight of Lalbaugcha Raja dressed in a stunning maroon outfit, complemented by intricate jewelry, left devotees in awe.
Anant Ambani has been deeply connected with the Lalbaugcha Raja committee through various social and religious initiatives.
Over the years, he has regularly attended the Ganeshotsav events, including the grand immersion of the idol at Girgaon Chowpatty Beach. Through the Reliance Foundation, his family has extended support to various healthcare projects associated with the Lalbaugcha Raja committee, contributing to the betterment of society.
During the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, when the committee faced a shortage of funds for its social work, Anant Ambani played a crucial role in providing much-needed financial aid.
His efforts helped sustain the committee’s initiatives, including the donation of 24 dialysis machines to support the healthcare needs of the community. This contribution strengthened his bond with the committee, and he now holds the position of an executive advisor to the Lalbaugcha Raja committee.
Lalbaugcha Raja, affectionately known as the “King of Lalbaug,” is one of Mumbai’s most revered Ganesh idols and is the focal point of the city’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Each year, lakhs of devotees, including commoners and celebrities, stand in long queues to catch a glimpse of this iconic idol. The Ganeshotsav festival, which begins on September 7, is a 10-day-long celebration that fills the streets of Maharashtra with joy, rituals, and festivities. It concludes with the grand ‘visarjan,’ where the Ganesha idols are immersed in water bodies amidst chants, music, and an atmosphere of devotion.
Anant Ambani’s generous donation has added to the grandeur of the celebrations, and his continued involvement highlights the Ambani family’s dedication to preserving the cultural and religious traditions of Mumbai. Through their philanthropic efforts, they continue to make significant contributions to the well-being of the community while supporting one of the most iconic religious festivals in the country.
