In an extremely tragic development, the sad demise of Sushant Singh Rajput has now been politicized and is being used as a springboard for the acceleration of TRP for a lot of news channels. The perpetrator has already been decided and the war bells have been ringing. Anyone who goes against the flow will be judged and executed.
The two heavy sides indulged in this battle are Republic TV and India Today. The former side is standing by the side of Sushant’s family while the latter has chosen to defend Rhea. This is no longer a case which is being fought in the court but it is more like a war of which TV channel will prevail.
On 8th September, Kanwal addressed Republic TV as the Banana Republic in his Twitter account. His exact tweet was, “Same #BananaRepublic channels that were questioning @IndiaTodayfor interviewing @Tweet2Rhea are hounding Rhea all over town desperately hoping she will speak to them. So why be a sore loser. @IndiaToday got an interview you wanted. Learn to lose with grace Goebbels.”

This was just the beginning of the war before things turned nasty. Republic TV didn’t take the time to respond. They instantly tweeted back, tagging India Today, Aaj Tak and Aroon Purie, sharing their weekly TRP data and juxtaposed them vis-à-vis the other channels. Their tweet read, “Can you give this (weekly TRP report) to your newsdesk with our compliments and tell them to take a chill pill.”

Rahul Kanwal led the India TV and his spat with Arnab Goswami was filled with hate-speech towards each other. When Rajdeep Sardesai managed to wring out the interview of Rhea Chakraborty, Arnab Goswamy seemed visibly irked and tried to play the judiciary by claiming, “India Today had cheated 130 crore people of India. They have provided a platform to Rhea Chakraborty, who is the main accused in the case.”
He also said, “Can the country forget that Rhea Chakraborty is the prime accused in the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case? Can the country forget that Rhea is the prime suspect in the Sushant case?”
In fact, claims were made that India Today was trying to vindicate Rhea Chakraborty by giving her a platform for expressing her side of the story. Rajdeep himself drew severe flak for citing Sushant Singh Rajput as a mediocre actor.
In the interview with Nupur Sharma on OpIndia, Arnab Goswami kept on hollering, stating, ““I will push a case for too long because I believe If I don’t push a case for long, Sushant Singh Rajput won’t get justice. It is my channel, I will do what the hell I want to do. Those people who are having problems with my persistence, they are jealous of Republic TV.”
Arnab concluded, “The people who do coquettish interviews with scamsters have no moral right to ask me why I do things for too long.”
Things started with a sniff of supremacy when Kanwal tweeted that he is unable to grasp the fact that why justice for Sushant is more important than justice for Rhea. He claimed, “Sushant’s side is being taken because of upcoming elections in Bihar, and the situation might have been different if the elections were in West Bengal.” He also said, “Banana Republic channels are accusing her of murder. Even CBI is not charging Rhea with murder.”
Despite throwing mud at each other, Republic TV holds a significant edge with their viewership, thanks to Arnab Goswami who has managed to establish himself as the judge, jury and executioner.
