In Bollywood, many Bollywood celebrities receive several awards every year for their valuable contributions to cinema and got honored for it.

1. Shashi Kapoor:

Shashi Kapoor is one of the greatest actors and producers to have worked in Bollywood. He has received four national awards and two Filmfare awards. However, he is the only actor in India to have ever refused the national award. Well, the national award was being given to him for his amazing performance in the movie Dharma Putra. However, he didn’t believe that his performance wasn’t great enough for the award.


2. Lata Mangeshkar:

Known as the ‘Nightingale of India’, Lata Mangeshkar is the legendary singer of India, who has won accolades of appreciation and awards for her singing performances over all these years. She has a long list of awards under her name that includes Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, etc.

However, Lata Mangeshkar denied accepting her first Filmfare award as the trophy of Filmfare was designed as a lady, who didn’t have any clothes on. This was also the first time when Filmfare redesigned the trophy and gave it to her.

3. Sonu Nigam:

Sonu Nigam is one of the most talented and powerful singers in India. He is a playback singer, live performer, actor, composer, and also an amazing host. Over the years, he has been ruling the hearts of his fans with his powerful singing. In his award lists, he has received one national award, two Filmfare awards in Hindi, and two Filmfare awards in the South industry.

It was in the year 1997 when Sonu Nigam refused to take the Filmfare award as the best song for the song Sandese Aate Hai. However, the reason was very logical. He stated that the song was sung by both Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathore and according to him, he deserved the same honor as him.

4. Suchitra Sen:

Suchitra Sen is famous for the iconic role in the movie Devdas by Bimal Roy. She was awarded India’s biggest movie honor, Dadasaheb Phalke Award but she didn’t receive it as she wanted to take it in a private ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, however, her wish wasn’t accepted.

5. Vyjayanthimala:

Vyjayanthimala is one of the greatest actresses of her time. She played the role of Chandramukhi in Bimal Roy’s Devdas. It was in the year 1955 when she was awarded the Filmfare award for the best supporting actress. However, she rejected the award because as per her she thought she played the lead role and not the supporting role in the movie.

6. Kumar Sanu:

An exceptional playback singer, Kumar Sanu is one of the most loved singers of Bollywood. Over the years, he has made everyone fall in love with his melodious voice and beautiful songs. He has received Filmfare awards for the best singer 5 times. However, as he has won the awards so many times that he refused the award in order to give the upcoming talents an opportunity to win the award.

7. Reena Roy:

Reena Roy has played many iconic roles in Bollywood from 1972 to 1985. Reena Roy was awarded the Filmfare award in 1977 for the movie Apnapan for the best-supporting actress, however, she rejected the award because as per her she didn’t play a supporting role but a lead role.

8. Salim Khan:

Salim Khan, one of the best writers of Bollywood, refused the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2015 as he believed that his contributions deserved higher honor than the Padma Shri award.

9. Prithviraj Kapoor:

Prithviraj Kapoor is the recipient of Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his amazing performance in movies. However, he had refused to take the Filmfare award for the Best Supporting Actor in the movie Mughal-E-Azam as he believed he deserved the award for the Best Actor.

10. Kangana Ranaut:

The Queen of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut, is one of the most talented and versatile actresses of Bollywood, having received many awards for her performances including the national award for the best actress. However, she never attends an award show but was invited to accept her award for the Best Actress Award at the Melbourne Film Festival for the movie Tanu Weds Manu.
