1. Varun Dhawan

Being a son to director dad, it was usual for Varun Dhawan to get a hang of things before actually making it to the big screen. Before his debut venture with Dharma Productions, Varun wired as an Assistant Director in SRK-starrer ‘My Name is Khan’. It was then that he was shortlisted for the lead role in ‘Student of the Year’.

2. Vicky Kaushal

For those who don’t know, Vicky Kaushal is the son of action director Sham Kaushal. The URI-actor who was keen on building a career as an engineer, somehow gathered interest to step foot in the world of acting. He later got his first break as an Assistant Director alongside Anurag Kashyap in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.

3. Siddharth Malhotra

Just like his close friend Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra got a break as an Assistant Director in Karan Johar’s ‘My Name is Khan’. Siddharth, being a graduate from Delhi University, was a keen aspirant of making a career in acting. He was later signed by Karan Johar and was cast alongside Alia Bhatt and Varun in the trio’s debut movie Student of the Year.

4. Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is another actor on the list who got the exposure of working in films before even making it in front of the camera. After completing his formative years, Ranbir worked as an Assistant Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Black, along with Sonam Kapoor. Earlier, he had also assisted his late father on the sets of ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalein’ in 1999. Ranbir made his acting debut alongside Sonam Kapoor in ‘Sawariya’ in 2007. The movie didn’t do well at the box office but saw a great career ahead for the Kapoor scion.

5. Arjun Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor, who made his acting debut in Bollywood in 2012 in Ishaqzaade, had worked as assistant director and producers in a couple of movies before making his entry at the big screen. He worked alongside Nikhil Advani in ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ and ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ as an assistant director. He even got an opportunity to work as an assistant producer with his father, Boney Kapoor in films like Wanted and No Entry.

6. Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor made her Bollywood debut alongside Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Sawariya’ in 2008 but only a few know that she had earlier worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant director. Sonam assisted Bhansali in Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji starer Black.

7. Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra was excellent in her academics. However, despite she worked for Yash Raj Films PR team. She later was selected in an audition and got to work on 3 movies with YRF.

8. Harshvardhan Kapoor

Harshvardhan Kapoor, who made his Bollywood debut in 2016, worked as an assistant director alongside Anurag Kashyap in Bombay Velvet. He even used to accompany his father, Anil Kapoor, on sets of various movies.

9. Vikrant Massey

Vikrant Massey has earned a name for himself working in quite a popular web series. However, before trying his luck with acting, Vikrant worked as an assistant choreographer with Shaimak Dawar in his show Dhoom Machao Dhoom.

10. Bhumi Padnekar

Bhumi Padnekar worked as an assistant casting director for Yash Raj Films for nearly 6 years before eventually making her acting debut. Incidentally, she auditioned for ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and was selected to feature in the lead role.
