Often times, we have seen a lot of big brands that become a part of our household names. People take pride in working for those companies. But beyond that expensive-looking glass building or the utility of their products, we hardly know the full forms of those names. Let us take a moment to enrich our general knowledge:

  1. HDFC

Pretty much most corporates like to create their salary accounts from this bank. With smooth customer service and an online banking facility, it is one of the trusted banks in India. Its full form is Housing Development Finance Corporation.

2. JBL

The company boasting of sound systems, JBL at one point of time was a favorite among international DJs. Apart from speakers for household and industrial uses, they also make efficient and portable sound systems. JBL stands for James Bullough Lansing, simply named after its founder in America in the 1940’s.


3. LG

Lucky Goldstar was the merger name given to the Lucky Chemicals and Goldstar. They are one of the trusted companies worldwide for home appliances.

One of the original IT start-ups in our country, Hindustan Computers limited was founded in 1976. It is headquartered in  Noida.

7. BMW

Founded in Germany, BMW is short for the Bavarian Motor Works. They manufacture luxury cars, high end, and sports cars, bicycles. They often partner with national and international tournaments.

8. DLF

The company founded by CH. Raghavendra Singh in 1946, it stands for Delhi Land and Finance. It has set up offices all across the major cities in India and mostly deals with land acquisition and real estate development projects.


It is the largest manufacturers of automobiles in Italy and has a lot of vintage models of cars restored for exhibition. It stands for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino.

10. HTC

A Taiwanese company, specializing in the manufacture of computers, laptops, mobile phones, etc. The full form is High Tech Computer Corporation.
