10 Times Bollywood Fooled Us With Replicas Of Real Locations

Bollywood lovers have always been amused by not only the movies as a whole but also sometimes the movie locations in particular. For example, it is always considered that a Kabir Khan movie will always have tricky locations with a strong history or an ongoing situation. A typical family drama from the Yash Raj Films or the Dharma Production hits from the 2000s was famous for the scenic locations. At times, it is also seen that how the movie sets are recreated like original destinations. Well, there lies some serious creativity and perspective! We have been fooled a lot of times into believing the location courtesy shown to us during the movies.

Let’s take a look at 10 such films where the locations were recreated.

  1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan

The movie is based on Bajrangi’s adventure to return Munni to her home in Pakistan. In reality, it was not shot anywhere in Pakistan, for obvious reasons! It was shot in Kashmir.

2. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

The fancy family drama whose lives we secretly want or jealous of, most of the movie was not shot at expensive locations. Rather they were all shot in Mumbai at the film city. That was unexpected!

3. Chennai Express

The adventures of Rahul and Meenamma were based on a village in Tamil Nadu. Surprisingly, it was shot in different places in Pune, Maharashtra, and never in Tamil Nadu! Now that’s a good recce by Rohit Shetty and the team.

4. Fanaa

This is a different story. Usually, productions try to not travel to international locations if not needed, to cut costs. This movie was shot majorly in Poland where they recreated Kashmir.

5. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewaani

Trekking with friends in Manali, Himachal Pradesh was given major goals by this movie as it went on to the bucket list of many Indian youngsters. Hate to burst the bubble, but it is actually shot in Gulmarg. yes, you read that right!

6. Mary Kom

This time the directors went uphill to Manali to recreate parts of Manipur. It had to look genuine as it is a biopic of the eminent Mary Kom.

7. Sarabjit

The wonderful movie with stellar performances by Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Richa Chadha among others left us in shivers and goosebumps. The times Pakistan Jail as part of the scenes were shown, a lot of applauds should be given to the makers as they recreated the jail in Mumbai film city. All the fine details of that time won’t have been so immaculate without proper research and creative know-how.

8. Phantom

The warzone movie starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in the leads was based on Malerkotla in Pakistan. however, the entire movie is shot in places in and around Punjab.

9. Dabbang

The first movie is apparently based on a story in Laalgunj, Uttar Pradesh. In reality, it was shot at various locations in Pune, Maharashtra.

10. Bombay Velvet

Much that the movie tanked miserably and Anurag Kashyap still repents the loss incurred, the recreation of the 1960s is something that is worthy to note. It was detailed and correct. However, a little mystery was revealed when it was found that the story never happened in Sri Lanka. The entire movie was made in Mumbai.
