A Doctor’s Wife Shared How COVID-19 Has Changed Their Lives

Over 8,000 (should be more if all are taken into account) victims across almost 142 countries have been affected by the novel Coronavirus. Massive numbers of doctors and healthcare personnel have come down to fight for this pandemic cause. The COVID-19 patients have been kept hopeful and strong by these brave hearts. The medical workers have been working to minimize the severity of the outbreak day and night, without paying attention to how close they are in contact with the deadly virus. On the flip side, the family members of these workers are also facing difficulties for the same reason. It is heartbreaking to see how the situation has become so helpless in a very short span of time.

A Twitter user Ratchel Patzer, whose husband works as medical personnel, shared her feelings as to how their lives have changed as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic. In other words, her experience seems traumatizing yet they have to just deal with it like everyone else.

“My spouse is a physician in the emergency department and is actively treating #coronavirus patients. We just made the difficult decision for him to isolate & move into our garage apartment for the foreseeable future as he continues to treat patients,” she wrote in a tweet.

She further tweeted that they have three kids. One of them is a 3-year old girl. “It pains me to wonder how many weeks will go by that he won’t get to hold our new baby or see our older kids. This is one example of the sacrifice that healthcare workers are making for our communities.”

Ratchel then posted how it is difficult to get the other kids homeschooled while taking care of the youngest one. “As I attempt to home school my kids (alone) with a new baby who screams if she isn’t held, I am worried about the health of my spouse and my family. This was not how I envisioned my maternity leave, but I know things could be worse.”

She then expressed her grievance of how it is so unfair that people are still going around socializing without taking things seriously. On one hand, the medical workers, the doctors, and nurses are working relentlessly to make matters less scary. And on another hand, people are checking in pubs, clubs in name of social interactions. She strongly feels that it is very heartbreaking to see this.

In her final tweet, she took it up as a request to people and social media to take care of themselves and understanding how safety should be a top priority.

Rachel’s Twitter thread went viral and trending on social media and it caught a lot of attention from people all over. They expressed their gratitude and concern for the statements made by her. See how few people reacted to her tweets:

Even former president of USA, Barack Obama caught her attention:

Kudos to all who are working in the healthcare department, the doctors, nurses, and their families. We all are in this together!
