Anand Mahindra Joins Netizens In Praising India’s Usain Bolt


Srinivas Gowda, until this month was relatively an unknown name outside the Kambala district. However, today he is all set to meet ‘top’ Sports Authority of India coaches after his record-breaking run at a Kambali racing event this month, which has created a stir on social media.

Srinivas Gowda shot to fame after the news of him breaking the record for the fastest run in Kambala came out. As per the referees of the event, he ran 142.50 meters in 13.62 seconds, which is considered as the fastest run in the traditional Kambala event.

Netizens are calling him the Indian Usain Bolt and are comparing his run with Usain Bolt after calculating that the man from Dakshina Kannada ran 100 meters in 9.55 seconds, which is 0.03 seconds faster than Bolt.

Talking about the event, Kambala is a traditional slush-track buffalo race which is popular in many districts of Karnataka. In the races, the competitors are tied to a plow run in parallel slush tracks.

Talking about his performance, Srinivas said: “I did not think I would run this fast. The buffaloes were quick and I followed them,” 


The Kambada Jockey who was running with the buffaloes trained hard for the event for one month. Talking about his regime, he said:

“I mainly exercise and swim everyday. Once a week, I practice running on the slushy track,”

Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra also took to his Twitter and praised the South Indian athlete for breaking the record. Showering praises on the athlete, Anand Mahindra wrote:

Just one look at his physique & you know this man is capable of extraordinary athletic feats. Now either @KirenRijiju provides him training as a 100m sprinter or we get Kambala to become an Olympic event. Either way, we want a gold medal for Srinivasa! 😊”
