India faced yet another defeat in the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand and got whitewashed by the cornered Kiwis. After India whitewashed New Zealand in the 5-match T20I series, fans were hoping that India would carry their form to the ODI series and give similar performance, but it just didn’t happen.
New Zealand outplayed India in all three formats of the game and registered a thumping 3-0 win to complete a whitewash. It is one of the best comebacks of recent times as fans and pundits had written Kiwis off after their drubbing defeat in the T20Is.
New Zealand started the series without their star batsman and captain–Kane Williamson–but still managed to outplay India. Young and experienced players from New Zealand stepped up at the right times and won many crucial moments throughout the ODI series.
Now, after this defeat, India would have to introspect and have a look deep look at the reasons why they were no match to the home side.
Former Indian cricketer and well-known commentator, Virender Sehwag congratulated New Zealand in his trademark style. He wrote:
After being whitewashed in T20’s, great effort from New Zealand to whitewash India in the One day Series. Bumrah being wicketless in the series was a big factor. #NZvIND.”
