E-Commerce tycoon Jeff Preston Bezos has announced $1 Billion worth investment for the digitization of small and medium business in India.
CEO and President of Amazon Jeff Bezos attended the event in Delhi today. In this event, he predicted that the 21st century is going to be the Indian century while announcing $1 Billion worth investments to digitize small business in the country. He also mentioned the “dynamism and energy” of India in his words.
Amazon’s President said, “I predict that the 21st century is going to the Indian Century” in the company event in Delhi today.
Jeff Bezos came in India at a time when the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has initiated an investigation about the business competition law violation by Amazon Inc. and Walmart-backed Flipkart. Parveen Khandelwal, Secretary-General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said, “We want Indian e-commerce market free from all glitches, unhealthy and unfair business practices, and till the government takes any action, our national agitation will continue”.
Many small traders across 300 cities of the country scheduled a protest against the visit of Jeff Bazos. Their obligation is that the firm is going to destroy the local retail market. But Amazon has committed an investment of $5.5 Billion with a vision of growing possibilities in India.
The 21st century will be the time of the US and India’s bilateral relationship based on the alliance as Mr. Bezos perceived. He mentioned “The dynamism, the energy… the growth. This country has something special and it’s a democracy,”
With his three days trip, Jeff Bezos paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on the first day of his visit. He tweeted a video of the visit and wrote, “Just landed in India and spent a beautiful afternoon paying my respects to someone who truly changed the world. “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” – Mahatma Gandhi.”
