90-Year-Old Chandigarh Grandma Launched Her Start-Up To Fulfill Her Dreams

If one wants to achieve their dreams, age is no barrier and the woman we are going to talk about is the proof of this fact. Harbhajan Kaur, who is 94-years old began her entrepreneurial journey four years ago to fulfill her dream of earning money on her own.

Harbhajan Kaur was encouraged by her daughter, Raveena to start her own brand ‘Harbhajan’s’. She makes delicious organic ‘besan ki barfi’ and her daughter sells them at the organic mandi in Chandigarh.

In an interview, Harbhajan’s daughter revealed how her mother once expressed that “she has not earned a single penny from her own”. Though the conversation ended for Harbhajan, but those words stuck to her heart. This is how their journey to open a start-up began.

In order to erase the regret of her mother, Raveena started working on the start-up. She gently stirred her mother into starting a business, where they make delicious treats that everyone had grown up eating in their house. In an interview with a leading media, Raveen said:

She is so talented in cooking, in our childhood we never went out to eat. She made everything at home – sweets, chocolates, sharbat, etc.,”

She added:

“Every winter, she used to make besan ki barfi for the entire family – our dining table used to be filled with barfi.”

The story of this 94-year-old inspirational woman has been going viral on social media. Harbhajan’s story is inspiring everyone to fulfill their dreams, no matter what.

The story also reached the eyes of the Mahindra Group’s chairman, Anand Mahindra who called Harbhajan Kaur “entrepreneur of the year”. He wrote:

When you hear the word ‘start-up’ it brings to mind images of millennials in Silicon Valley or Bengaluru trying to build billion dollar ‘unicorns.’ From now on let’s also include a 94-yr-old woman who doesn’t think it’s too late to do a start-up.”

Captain Amarinder, the Chief Minister of Punjab also took to his twitter and said that he would like to taste the ‘besan ki barfi’ made by Harbhajan  Kaur. He wrote:

The word Start-Up can no longer be associated with millennials alone because 94 year-old Harbhajan Kaur of Chandigarh is becoming an inspiration for all. I agree with @AnandMahindra on recognising her as the entrepreneur of the year. Waiting to taste your signature Besan Burfi.”
