Shahid Kapoor is one of the finest actors of the industry, acclaimed highly for his performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s movie ‘Haider’. He did not charge for Haider, not to affect the film due to budget. Not only Shahid’s performance got an immense appreciation for the movie but also the movie won five national awards for Best Screenplay, Best costume design, Best music direction, Best choreography, Best male playback singer.
The megastar of Bollywood’s precious time is certainly expensive for producers. But the veteran actor is also humble. When his makeup man Deepak Sawant turned into a director and offered him a role in a Bhojpuri film ‘Ganga, Gangotri and Ganga Devi’, Big B decided to play at the movie for free. Mr Bacchan did not charge anything for the movie ‘Black’ as well. He said that being a part of such a beautiful story as ‘Black’ was enough joy of him.
Shah Rukh Khan:
The Badshah of Bollywood is one of the highest-paid actors of the industry but he did not charge for the movie ‘Bhoothnath Returns’. He also did not make any charges for the dance number in the movie ‘Krazzy 4’. King Khan did not take any money for the cameo in the movie ‘Hey Ram’ as well, which was directed by Kamal Hasan.
Ever since Karan Johar casted Rani Mukherjee in the movie ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, they became good friends. So, the actress did not charge for her brief role in Kjo’s, ‘Kabhi Khushi Khabhi Gham’ as a friendly gesture.
The actress made her Big Debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the movie ‘Om Shanti Om’. Deepee, who is now the highest paid actress of the industry, did not charge anything in her debut film ‘Om Shanti Om’. She took it as a big fortune to begin her Bollywood career opposite King Khan.
Sonam Kapoor played a cameo opposite Farhan Akhter in the movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. She took a token of appreciation of Rs. 11 for the movie. Flying Sikh Milkha Singh himself charged Re. 1 which was imprinted in 1958 in his biopic by Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra.
Mr. Perfectionist did not charge for his role in the movie ‘PK’, instead he demanded 33% shares of the venture’s profit. He believes that his quality job will be admired by the audience and that will turn them to watch him on the screen.
The actor charged Re. 1 for his role in the movie ‘Manto’ directed by Nandita Das. Besides Nawazuddin, his co-actors of the film, Rishi Kapoor, Gurdas Maan, Javed Akhter, Rajshree Deshpande, Swanand Kirkire, Ranvir Shorey charged nothing from the project. The film was acclaimed in several film festivals such as Toronto, Asia Pacific Screen Award, etc where Siddiqui got the Best actor award.
One of the highest actors of the industry, Salman Khan has the golden heart for his friends. He appears in several cameo roles in many films for their request. He did not charge a penny for special appearance in the movie ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani’, ‘Om Shanti Om’and ‘Son of Sardaar’.
Last but not the least, the legendary Diva Meena Kumari worked in her last movie ‘Pakeezah’ in 1972 directed by Kamal Amrohi. She charged Rs. 1 for her the classic. She expired battling with liver cirrhosis, few weeks after release of Pakeezah. The movie got cult status and acclaimed of the actress’ performance.
