After the recent scandal of producer Harvey Weinstein in Hollywood, about his victimization of many present day celebrities who worked on his projects, 10 such shockingly disturbing celebrity casting couch stories came to the fore, in our very own Bollywood Entertainment Industry.
We give you a trivia of all that went on before these stars weren’t considered as such.
While many industry executives deny that this practice of the ‘casting couch’, or taking sexual and unsavory advantage from the industry newcomers exists in the entertainment industry, but these celebrities are forced to disagree. In fact, according to a victim, the star Ranveer Singh, it is indeed a commonplace practice to get to that coveted road to Glory.
1. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar
According to the Hindustan times, New Delhi, “Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Tamil actor and daughter of veteran actor-politician-actor R Sarathkumar, is the latest celebrity to speak out about being subjected to sexual harassment in the film industry. On Monday, she tweeted her unsavoury experience of the casting couch”. Her situation involved the programming head of a leading TV channel who had demanded sexual favours from her, and threatened to cut her off from his project, if she did not give in.

- Ranveer Singh:
In December 2015, the highly coveted actor described his situation as a newcomer, where the casting director didn’t even care to look at his portfolio after inviting Ranveer to his home in Andheri. According to Ranveer, this highly sleazy gentleman reminded him to be “smart and sexy” and advised him to be ready to take the couch.
- Ayushmann Khurrana:
In February 2016, The 31-year-old actor shared his experience of being victimised by casting director directly told him that he would have to do it. Then a TV anchor, the actor denied giving in to such advances, explaining that he was not gay.
- Radhika Apte:
Apte denied falling victim to direct abuses, but bears testament to flirtations and sleeping invitations. But she was rude to them, as she should be, and that’s that.
- Kalki Koechlin:
She was lucky to have slipped through her share of invitation, everytime, as she is reported to have said on October 2015.
- Tisca Chopra
Back when she was no-one in the industry, she fell into such trap laid by a veteran director, without realising that she would have to be his “bed squeeze” as she terms it.
- Payal Rohatgi
In March 2011, the actor accused the filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee, of Love Sex Aur Dhokha fame, of trying to make her a casting couch victim regarding offering her a role in his then upcoming film Shanghai. Because she didn’t give in, reportedly she stopped receiving calls regarding the project afterwards.
- Sameera Reddy
According to Reddy’s candid interview in May 2007, she underwent several disturbimg experiences during her time in the industry. As HT quotes her, “Sameera’s word of caution for aspiring actresses? Don’t get taken in by promises made by B and C grade filmmakers, for they just might be out to exploit you.”
- Surveen Chawla
This actor expressed her relief in July 2016, thst she didn’t have to fall victim to the cruel practice, although she knows it to be a fact that such practices exist in the Southern Film Industry.
