Biopics are the latest trend in Bollywood which have been major hits. Fans are always curious about the success story of their favourite super stars and film makers are capitalizing on that. In the recent years many biopics have been made on sportsmen’s lives and we have detailed information about how much the producers paid to these sportsmen for the films.
Farhan Akhtar portrayed the role of MIlkha Singh in the movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ which released in 2013. Besides Farhan, the movie had actors like Sonam Kapoor in the cast and it was directed by Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra. However, you will be surprised to know that ‘The Flying Sikh’ Milkha only charged 1 rupee for giving away the rights to the directors.
Directed by James Erskine, ‘Sachin- A Billion Dreams’ earned 17 crores at the box office in just two days banking on the incredible stardom of ex cricketer Sachin Tendulkar after the release in 2017. Although the film wasn’t highly appreciated by critics, it did overwhelmingly well in the box office. The superstar cricketer charged a hefty fee of 40 crores from the producers for letting them make the movie.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni:
Sushant Singh Rajput played the part of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in ‘M .S Dhoni: An Untold Story’. It was released in 2016. It was a defining film of Sushant’s career and got huge applauses. It made 1.3 Billion all over the world and Dhoni charged 80 crores for the film.
Mahabir Singh Phogat:
Based on the life of wrestler Mahabir Phogat and his daughters, Amir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ made 2000 crores all over and broke every record. The film was a critical success too. However, Mahabir only asked for 80 lakhs for the film as this film recognized his efforts for uplifting wrestling in India and inspired millions all over the world.
Pan Singh Tomar:
‘Pan Sngh Tomar’, directed by Timangsu Dhulia, was made on the legend of Pan Singh who was a seven times gold medal winning athlete from India who was forced to become a dacoit to fight for his rights. Actor Irrfan Khan played his role to perfection. This film was highly regarded by the critics. Pan Singh however only asked for 15 lakhs to let them portray his life on screen.
Chocolate hero Emraan Hasmhi played the role of controversial former cricket Azharuddin in the film ‘Azhar’. Despite not being a commercial or critical success, the actor was applauded for his efforts to play the role of the former cricketer. Surprising fact about the movie is that Azharuddin did not charge even a single penny for the movie.
