Calls for justice grew stronger on social media for veterinarian Priyanka Reddy, who was brutally charred to death on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway on Thursday. She is suspected to have been sexually assaulted before being murdered.
According to police, the accused took her body to an under-construction bridge a few kilometres away and set it on fire. The police stated that the victim’s innerwear and some other objects including an alcohol bottle found around 100 metres from the spot led them to believe she was sexually assaulted before being killed.
The Telangana police have also confirmed that Priyanka Reddy was kidnapped and gang-raped. The police confirmed that a lorry driver named Mohammad Pasha from Narayanpet in Mahababub Nagar district was allegedly the main suspect. Media reports are now saying that rape has been confirmed in post mortem analysis.
Celebrities took to Twitter to vent their anger and frustration for Priyanka Reddy rape incident. The world paces towards the much-awaited 2020, marking the end of another decade, and women in India are still not safe.
Here’s what Bollywood had to say:
Whether it is #PriyankaReddy in Hyderabad, #Roja in Tamil Nadu or the law student gangraped in Ranchi,we seem to be losing it as a society. It has been 7 yrs to the gut-wrenching #Nirbhaya case & our moral fabric continues to be in pieces. We need stricter laws. This needs to STOP!

What those men did to #Priyanka_Reddy is another dark reminder of how unsafe we’ve allowed our society to become by not delivering swift and telling justice in these cases..!
Heart goes out to her family in their hours of unimaginable grief.

So furious. Wonder if there's any safe place whatsoever. Tragic to see women victimised every day. Capital punishment to the guilty is a must. Adequate safety is the need of the hour. Let's not wait for a situation to become an emergency.#JusticeForPriyankaReddy

Just reading about the horrific #PriyankaReddy gangrape case. Numbed & shocked that as a society we continue to display our brutality! Ram Ram ji 🙏Will the liberals scream #HangTheRapist now in case of #PriyankaReddy gang rape and murder or will @amnesty say that men from #Minority community will be targeted if this LAW is passed 😡 #SecularismisaMentalDisorder #PayalRohatgi #HangMohammedPasha pic.twitter.com/eKT9Da85lD

How many times have I heard this in the last few months? “Go to the police station” instead of sharing stories of sexual harassment here. Cus that’s where women will surely be heard out & saved from brutality without being questioned like #PriyankaReddy ‘s dad was? 👇🏾 pic.twitter.com/aub6vjWCoK
